Contributing to OpenZeppelin Governor
Contributing to a common governance standard
Agora is proud to join OpenZeppelin, Tally, and ScopeLift in establishing a working group committed to the evolution of the OpenZeppelin Governor framework. Our shared mission is to build a governance framework that’s robust and fully open-source, designed to scale with the decentralized internet.
Today, Agora governor is a fork of OpenZeppelin's library with enhanced the modularity and extensibility. We look forward to bring our learnings back in order to contribute to OpenZeppelin's Governor framework, ensuring it remains a powerful tool for decentralized organizations. As one of the few applications that are fully MIT open-source, Agora is dedicated to building public goods for the community and contributing back to the core infrastructure that supports a flourishing Web3 ecosystem.
Reinforcing Modular, Open-Source Governance Infrastructure
The OpenZeppelin Governor framework has earned its place as a widely-used governance tool, offering the flexibility DAOs need to govern effectively. Since its initial release as “Governor Alpha” in 2020, the framework has continually evolved toward modularity, allowing for customizable governance structures that fit diverse needs. Agora’s role in this working group will be to support the development of high-demand extensions so that DAOs and the broader Web3 community have a truly open, composable toolkit. Our goal is to create a framework that doesn’t just serve today’s DAOs but can adapt to the decentralized protocols of tomorrow.
Commitment to Open-Source for Long-Term, Sustainable Governance
Agora’s commitment to open-source goes beyond feature development; we’re building governance infrastructure that remains accessible and transparent. Our fully MIT-licensed software allows DAO operators and developers to innovate without limitations, offering them the freedom to adapt and build upon our contributions. By engaging in this working group, Agora isn’t just supporting feature development but is actively contributing back to the core structure of Governor, strengthening it for community use. We’re creating a space for roadmap discussions, open forums, and collaborative problem-solving, all to ensure DAOs have the tools they need to operate with flexibility and resilience. In supporting this vision, Agora is helping pave the way for decentralized governance standards that foster a future of open, community-led technology.
